Corporation holds free health camps

CHENNAI: The third phase of free health camps, organised by the Chennai Corporation today at Basin Bridge (Zone 2) and Kilpauk (Zone 5), drew 38, 500 participants to 48 locations. More than 1, 000 persons were tested for urinary tract infections and 4,001 came to check eye infections. More than 700 participants tested for diabetes and 413 underwent an electrocardiogram (ECG) test.
The camps, which began on February 14, are scheduled to take place in five phases in ten zones. Jointly organised by the Centre and State Government, the camps are open to all.
Doctors from government medical colleges and Ayurveda, Unani and Homoeopathy research centres and allopathy doctors are participating.
Medical services available at the camps include temporary and permanent family planning methods, abortion operations, testing for and treatment of diabetes, heart diseases, skin disease, malaria and filaria, as well as counselling and testing for HIV and venereal diseases.
The next phase will be held in the Kodambakkam and Mylapore zones on February 26.
The last phase will be held in the Tondiarpet and Aynavaram zones on February 28.
